Soldier jailed for carrying a pistol through Canada

HAMILTON — A local man is concerned for his son, a soldier he said is in jail in Canada for possessing a firearm.

Army Cpl. Kevin Shope, a 25-year-old Hamilton High School graduate, was cutting through Canada on his way from Michigan to report to Fort Drum in New York, according to his father, David Shope of Hamilton. – Middletown Journal

Apart from the obvious, saying that it is appalling that a soldier (or anyone) is facing 3 years in jail for carrying a pistol in his bags, remember that Canada is not as gun friendly a place as the US. Until they get a clue, we need to be very careful what you do bringing any weapons over the border. Hopefully this can get worked out.
