Quote of the Day – Lasers Edition

March 31, 2009

A laser mosquito killing device is genius, both because it’s novel, and because it’s quite likely someone got a malaria related grant to be able to play with lasers.   – Sebastian

Quoted because I need to figure out a gig like that. :)

Quote of the Day – Offensive Edition

March 30, 2009

I’ve always been of the opinion that most things worth saying are going to offend someone.

I’d be disappointed if what I’ve said on my blog didn’t offend someone. – Mike W, in the comments

Quote of the Day – Astroturf Edition

March 29, 2009

I personally doubt it will happen, seeing as how they are actually an astro-turf organization whose sole purpose is to get Democrats elected… and they only have about 6 members, including Bob Ricker’s mom. – Greg Morris

Quote of the Day – More Speech Edition

March 28, 2009

Even through my seething anger, I did not feel the need to call my congresscritter and have him write up legislation banning offensive phrases from vehicle. I know well enough that the cure for speech I deem hateful is more speech. I wouldn’t do business with anyone I knew to have stuff like that on their vehicles. – Robb Allen

Read the whole thing.

More from the refuse to be a victim files

March 27, 2009

via Robb:

ST. PETERSBURG — A would-be snatch-and-grab thief came out empty-handed after trying to rob a 75-year-old St. Petersburg woman Monday.

Marcie Rae Lee had slid behind the wheel of her car after shopping at the Publix on 34th Street N when a woman described by police as black, 5 feet 4 to 5 feet 6 and about 135 pounds approached her demanding the money in her hand.

The suspect implied she had a gun, police said, but Lee refused to hand over her cash. When the robber reached in and attempted to snatch it, Lee chomped down on her forearm. The suspect fled into a red SUV when Lee loosed her bite.

Quote of the Day – Typical Edition

March 27, 2009

There are people without criminal or mental illness histories who do, indeed, lose their tempers, go get a gun, and murder someone. But they aren’t that common. Far more typical is the person who, by the time they reach adulthood, already knows what it is liked to handcuffed by a police officer, has been convicted of at least a misdemeanor–and carries a bail bond company’s business card with him. – Clayton Cramer

Quote of the Day – Crisis Edition

March 26, 2009

But the real scandal isn’t those policies, even though they’re bad enough. The real scandal is that this administration thinks crises are opportunities for governmental power-grabs (It seems writer Randolph Bourne was wrong. It is not war, but crisis, that is the health of the state). – Jonah Goldberg

Quote of the Day – How to Help Edition

March 25, 2009

I disagree. Obama, PLEASE stop focusing on the economy. In fact leave it alone because all you’re doing, in fact all you can do, is make it worse.

There is nothing a president, or anyone else in government, can do to HELP the economy. Anything they do only hurts. – Alan

Quote of the Day – What People Like Edition

March 24, 2009

Granted, Jim’s job is to portray the shooting sports in a manner that doesn’t freak people out. But that is easily done since, as History Channel shows us, people like to blow stuff up. – Uncle

Quote of the Day – A Good Question Edition

March 23, 2009

Are you punch-drunk? – Steve Kroft

It really had to be asked.
