Quote of the Day – Police State Stench Edition

September 28, 2008

“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouricampaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.

“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment. – MO Gov Matt Blunt

Add this to the attempts to stifle the NRA ads, and others, on the tally of Obama’s shameful record of stifling free speech.

Can you imagine is John McCain or any other Republican had done this? The scandal would be broadcast far and wide, and the candidate’s withdrawal would be demanded. The stench of it would be attached to the party for years. It is time that the same standard was applied across parties.

Quote of the Day – Racial Regress Edition

September 27, 2008

We’ve made much racial progress in this country. Any candidate who employs the tactics of the old segregationists is unworthy of the presidency. - Rush Limbaugh

Thoughts on the debate

September 26, 2008

A few observations, in no particular order:

I think John McCain won, although not a blowout.

Obama main foreign policy plan seems to be bombing Pakistan, although he later denied it

Apparently Iraq is the only country we shouldn’t be at war with. Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Russia all need military attention.

McCain used the more proper and respectful “Senator Obama,” Obama usually called McCain “John,” which seemed disrespectful.

Obama repeatedly said that we should not be in Iraq in the first place. Maybe we should, maybe shouldn’t, but the point is moot. What are you going to do going forward?

Obama said he supports missile defense, but he has pledged to cut it.

Both McCain and Obama kept their presentation weaknesses in check, Obama didn’t say “um um um” a lot, and McCain showed no real signs of temper.

The “I don’t even have a seal yet” line was great.

I didn’t catch it, but several people said that Obama had to read the name off the bracelet.

McCain hit on one of the things he needs to drive home: NO MORE TAXES AT ANY LEVEL, it would cripple the economy.

I liked the format where they could address each other.

Pointing out $932,000,000 in Obama earmarks was a good shot.

Obama talks about the cost of gas, but he wants to raise taxes on oil companies, and criticizes McCain for wanting to cut taxes. Hopefully most people can figure out what is more likely to lead to lower oil prices.

Obama could give no clear answers on what spending he would cut.

Obama: “The problem with a spending freeze is you’re using a hatchet where you need a scalpel.” My response: We don’t need a hatchet or a scalpel. Let me recommend a chain saw.

Yes, we know your father came from Kenya, and that’s where you got your “funny name.” We also know you have a half brother there living in poverty who you can’t be bothered to help.

Quote of the Day – Just Want to Be Loved Edition

September 26, 2008

It’s time to free the evil rifles, folks. They’ve done nothing wrong. They just want to be loved and brought to the range just like all the nice wood-stocked ones… – Jay G

Check out the rest, some good “assault weapon/not assault weapon” pics.

I thought it only banned PISTOL ammo…

September 25, 2008

Factcheck.org says that the “banning common hunting rounds” part of the NRA’s ads is false, because the ban applies only to handgun ammo, and ammo designed to be armor piercing. The bill defines an armor piercing round as: ”a projectile that may be used in a handgun and that the Attorney General determines, under section 926(d), to be capable of penetrating body armor; or (iv) a projectile for a center-fire rifle, designed or marketed as having armor piercing capability, that the Attorney General determines, under section 926(d), to be more likely to penetrate body armor than standard ammunition of the same caliber.”

No chance of that banning your 30-06 or 30-30 ammo, right?

Not so fast. Both calibers are available in a handgun. So EVERY SINGLE ROUND of those calibers is “a projectile that may be used in a handgun … capable of penetrating body armor”

In fact, barrels for the Thompson Encore can be found in the following calibers, and a this is not an exhaustive list: .22-250 Remington, .223 Remington, .204 Ruger, .243 WInchester, .25-06 Remington, .270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .308 Winchester, 7mm-08 Remington, and .45-70 Government. There are even pictures of a custom .600 Nitro Mag! Although I have not tested it, I would feel safe saying that every one of those cartridges could penetrate body armor, so every one of them could be banned under the law as it is written.

Sounds like a lot of common hunting rounds to me.

More phone bank

September 25, 2008

I spent some more time doing phone bank (as did Bitter.) It is great way to spend some time with like minded people, and make an effort to make a difference in history.

Voting is a minimum exercises of your rights and responsibilities as an American citizen. Take a few hours (or more) volunteering to help candidates that support your rights.

You can find out more information about volunteering on johnmccain.com, or you should be able to contact your local Republican office and get information there.

Quote of the Day – Because He Deserves It Edition

September 25, 2008

“Absolutely. He deserves to be embarrassed.” - Dinesh D’Souza

Mr. D’Souza was responding to a reporter if his George Obama Compassion Fund was an attempt to embarrass Barack [redacted] Obama.

If you don’t know the story, G. Obama is B.H. Obama’s half brother, living on $1 a month in the slums in Kenya. Dinesh D’Souza formed the George Obama Compassion Fund to help him out. According to D’Souza’s research, the poverty line in Kenya is about $100/year.

Last year, Barack Obama made $4,000,000. Assuming you would need several times the $100 to live fairly well in Kenya, say, maybe $400 per year, 1 tenth of 1 percent of Obama’s income last year could keep his half brother living well for 10 years!

To  put that in perspective, let’s say you make $40,000 per year. Don’t you think you could $40 to help a family member out?

For all of Obama’s soaring rhetoric about helping out people who are down, he can’t even help his own family.

He does indeed deserve to be embarrassed.

Oleg Volk Going to Court.

September 24, 2008

Looks like Oleg is having some trouble with one of the admins for thehighroad.org, and is looking for some help.

Going to court.
In December 2002, I founded The High Road forum dedicated to the advancement of responsible gun ownership. Recently, it was discovered that in 2006, the volunteer forum systems administrator, Derek Zeanah of Statesboro, Georgia, changed domain registration to himself. After he was confronted, Derek locked out all other staff from accessing the Web server administration and would not share even backup copies of its content. After failed attempts to peacefully resolve the dispute, it has become necessary for me to initiate a lawsuit against Derek Zeanah for the return of thehighroad.org domain name and the forum database.

I am seeking and would greatly appreciate donations to help with the cost of litigation. You can use Paypal (olegvolk@gmail.com) or send a check to:
Oleg Volk 3112 Chambley Ct Hermitage, TN 37076

All donations shall be returned if the lawsuit is ultimately avoided. You can also aid me by re-posting this appeal on your blog, forum or web site. My legal position is already endorsed by almost all of The High Road staff as well as Rich Lucibella, the founder of The Firing Line forum.

UPDATE: Derek’s reaction was to disable The High Road forum all together. He also removed most of the staff who opposed him.
