Would you have dinner with a former president who you strongly disagreed with?
Caveat: this is dinner, not a chance to tell them why you hate them or yell “you suck” and get kicked out. A reasonable amount of civility is assumed.
Answer in the comments.
No, I don’t like any of the ex-presidents. They can all go to hell as far as I am concerned. I only eat with my friends.
No.
While many people do, I don’t need “to be seen” with famous people to feel good or to be successful.
I just don’t see the point unless you wanted to get to know the person since the “President” generally isn’t the person IMHO.
If they came over to my house and we were just having dinner, no publicity and it was just my immediate family?
Carter…probably not, Bush Sr, yeah I’ve always thought he would be an interesting guy, he’s had every damn job in Government and probably can carry a conversation.
Clinton? No way, I’ve got womenfolk here after all. Bush 45? Maybe, on a good day. I don’t think I’d have much to talk to him about.
Obama, Yes! B/c that would mean he was a FORMER president and the damage would be done!
LOL
Yeah. Mostly because most presidents are wealthy, so it’d probably be an expensive, filling, and hopefully delicious dinner. We could just talk about birds or the weather.
Who’s paying?
More information is needed. Is this a big dinner where the President is just there and/or speaking? Or is this a chance to have a dinner for 4 to 6 people where one of the attendees is a former President?
I would definitely attend the smaller meal, it would be interesting to meet any of the former Presidents and if there was a lively conversation, without any need to be rude, it would be a learning experience.
The big group, especially if it was a fundraiser, I would probably pass on unless I respected that President and wanted to hear his speech.
