It doesn’t happen often, but in this case I completely agree with Hillary Clinton. She is drawing fire after comparing Russia’s moves in Ukraine to “protect” people there to what Hitler did at the beginning of World War II.

The fact of the matter is, that is exactly what Hitler did, especially in the occupation of the Sudetenland in Czechoslovakia. Time will tell whether Putin continues to the point of annexing some or all of Ukraine, but the excuse is one we have seen before. I am not saying Putin is the same as Hitler, or as evil as Hitler, but he at least seems to be using one of the tactics Hitler used.

Unfortunately, Hitler and the Nazis are seen as being worse than is possible to ever see again, and so any comparison seems overblown. The fact is that as bad as the Nazis were, they were humans, and other humans can be just as warped and evil as they were. And they can use the same tactics, etc. By refusing to accept this, we refuse to learn from history. And by refusing to learn from history, we risk repeating it.
