The government would like for you to think of it as a bank with unlimited funds.  If you know anything about politics and government, you’ll know that this isn’t true, and that we are, in fact, in more debt than is fathomable by most people in this world.  It’s become a game of numbers – and the mindset of our country today is that the more you think of it at numbers and not actual money, the better off you’ll be (which is how we get into trouble, but that’s just a big circle now, isn’t it?). – Squeaky
