Quote of the Day – Fascism Edition

January 31, 2009

Sinclair Lewis famously wrote “When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying the cross.” He couldn’t be more wrong.

When fascism comes to America, it will be swaddled in bubble-wrap, carrying the populace like a helpless infant. – Robb

Accidental/Negligent discharges are no laughing matter

But the response sometimes is.

Encouraging

January 31, 2009

The “stimulus package” not getting any Republican votes in the house is pretty encouraging. It shows that a) the Republican leadership was able to get some solidarity, and b) that the Democrats were ineffective at getting any Republicans to join them.

The important thing over the next few years, though, is not to just oppose everything the Democrats do, but to have and push big ideas of their own. The Democrats managed to get away with just opposing everything, largely because of a media that was behind them, which made it easy to paint anything the Republicans were doing as bad. The Republicans don’t have that luxury, and are going to have to demonstrate that there is a better way than the Democrats are proposing.

Quote of the Day – Bacon Edition

“Mmmm….bacon. If only it wasn’t coming from my pig.” – One of Marko’s friends, in re the “stimulus package.”

Looks like Kim Rhode got her shotgun back

January 30, 2009

Via Snowflakes in Hell:

The Riverside, California Sheriff’s Department has recovered four-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode’s shotgun. Police officials say the gun was recovered during a routine parole check. According to Rhode, the gun is in “immaculate” shape, although the competition stickers she had collected during her shooting career had been removed. “I can’t believe it,” Rhode told The Outdoor Wire only minutes after the gun was returned. A complete report in tomorrow’s edition of The Outdoor Wire.

Really good to hear that. I would be interested to know who stole it. As I remember the details of the case, it seemed like a very targeted theft.

Quote of the Day – Front Lawn Edition

January 29, 2009

A quick check of the front lawn reveals: Snow, si. Unicorns, no. Could it be that both Al and Barry are pulling my leg? - Tam

Zombies Ahead

January 29, 2009

FOXNews: Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from changing messages on digital road signs after one sign in Austin was altered to read, “Zombies Ahead.”

Director of media relations for the Texas Department of Transportation Chris Lippincott said “It’s sort of amusing, but not at all helpful,”

Interpretation: We laughed for hours, but can’t tell you that.

SayUncle says that’s not what he would make the sign say.

Quote of the Day – Gridlock Edition

January 28, 2009

They should understand clearly that legislative gridlock is their duty, and bi-partisanship really means they’re just helping to hold us down while the democrats go through our wallets.

Yes, trying to stop the sinking of the country when so many seem to want it sunk, will get you scapegoated as an obstructionist; it might even cost you your seat. But going along to get along won’t work either, and if you are going down, it might as well be fighting. - Mike

Reminds me of one of my coworkers, who loved most of the Clinton years, not because he is a Clinton fan, but because the Republicans has Congress, and the Democrats had the presidency, and nothing got done. We both feel that in general, the less the government does, the better.

Blackwater Basic Pistol DVD

January 27, 2009

I borrowed the Blackwater Basic Pistol DVD from a coworker and watched it tonight. It was, exactly as advertised, a good basic pistol overview, covering such topics as grip, stance, sight picture, and trigger control. Nothing earth shattering, but a good review of the fundamentals. If you are looking to revolutionize already strong shooting, probably not the best option. But if you are looking for a way to work on the fundamentals it is a good place to look.

That, and supporting Blackwater will make Nancy Pelosi cry.

Quote of the Day – Duty Edition

January 27, 2009

As Wyoming’s United States Senator, I take very seriously the responsibility to protect and defend our right to keep and bear arms. President Obama has every right to nominate Eric Holder to be Attorney General. I have the duty to closely review the nominee’s qualifications and philosophy on issues that are important to all Americans. – Sen. John Barrasso (R, Wyoming)

Thank You.
