Fun with the Super Shorty

Michael Bane demonstrates the Serbu Super Shorty on Downrange TV. Very cool!

Quote of the Day – Voting Edition

August 31, 2008

48 hours later and I’m still fairly squeeing with glee. I may actually get to vote for a candidate instead of against one. This feels weird… :DTam

The idea that we can vote FOR a candidate instead of AGAINST one seems fairly prevalent. I am definitely excited about Sarah Palin, and about the ticket. McCain made a bold move, and I think so far it is paying off for him in a big way.

The McCain campaign won last week

August 30, 2008

Looking at cnn.com earlier, first screen has 3 mentions of Sarah Palin, one of Barack Obama. And that one was about an ad he was running about Sarah Palin. Remember, this is 2 days after his speech accepting the nomination of the Democrat party. McCain and Palin have managed to be the most talked about thing in the presidential race, right after the DNC convention.

CNN: “Dems say Palin could be a ‘disaster’,” Translation: Disaster for Dems - John Lott

Quote of the Day – Qualifications Edition

August 29, 2008

It is pretty audacious for the Obama campaign to say that Governor Palin is not qualified to be Vice President. She has a record of accomplishment that Senator Obama simply cannot match. Governor Palin has spent her time in office shaking up government in Alaska and actually achieving results — whether it’s taking on corruption, passing ethics reform or stopping wasteful spending and the ‘bridge to nowhere.’ Senator Obama has spent his time in office running for president. - McCain aide Jill Hazelbaker

And really, Mayor and Governor are much more relevant experience when it comes to the office of President or Vice President.

Hat tip Breda via IM, who has a pretty cool video of Sarah Palin, check it out

The Change Smackdown

August 29, 2008

In this corner, with the sale of a corporate jet left over from that last governor because taxpayer money could be better spent, pushes to eliminate corruption in both parties, the elimination of the “bridge to nowhere,” a cut in her own salary, and a 60% reduction in city property taxes, Sarah Palin

In this corner with 2 terms running for national office from the Illinois Senate, and 2 years of running for President from a Senate office, Barack Obama.

Yes, I know that Sarah Palin is not running directly against Obama, but the point is that with Obama you get years of political rhetoric, and not much to show in terms of actual results. If you want change you can believe in, you need RESULTS you can believe in.

McCain/Palin

August 29, 2008

This is good news. According to Fox News and CNN, Sen John McCain selected Sarah Palin as his running mate. Let’s take a look at what she brings:

  • NRA Life memeber
  • Hunts
  • Fishes
  • Fiscal conservative
  • Pro oil exploration
  • Pro life
  • Actually made changes to clean up corruption
A lot of the things we want in a candidate.
The Weekly Standard says:
“a politician of eye-popping integrity”
“She made three other promises: to end corruption in state government, cut spending, and provide accountability. She’s now redeeming those promises.”
“Palin’s tough spending cuts drew criticism from Republican legislators whose pet projects were vetoed. But her popularity doesn’t appear threatened. ‘It’s not just that she’s pretty and young,’ says Dittman. ‘She’s really smart. And there’s no guile. She says her favorite meal is moose stew or mooseburgers. It wouldn’t shock people if that were true.’”

I think this shores up some of McCain’s weak points, especially with the right wing.

Home run.

Classy

August 29, 2008

This ad ran during the evening of Obama’s acceptance speech. I think it is a vary gentlemanly thing to do.

He needed a home run…

August 28, 2008

And it looks like Obama just hit a pop fly.

Let’s just hope John McCain doesn’t drop it.

Lots of the same old  stuff, standard Democrat tripe, the government can take care of all your problems, no tax breaks for big business… etc. Not a terrible speech, but not what he needed.

Double trap

August 28, 2008

Our trap league being over for the year, a group of us decided to shoot a round of double trap. I shot a 34, which I can’t complain about for a first time. Definitely fun, and something I will have to do more of.

Also, we had 8 people from our church out shooting, as well as a relative of our pastor.
