I’ve always had a nagging little pain concerning the term “Fudd”. I don’t know where it came from, probably from one of those big gun boards I can’t get on because I can’t get my name approved (I haven’t tried all that hard, really). While Ride Fast says it’s used in a joking manner, I don’t see it that way. It’s a slur, like any other. Elmer Fudd is arguably the dumbest cartoon character ever conceived. Grouping a whole section of gun owners that way is stereotyping, plain and simple.

Exactly. While some claim it is a joke, or an insult aimed at a small subset of hunters, I think it is seen as a slur to all hunters. If we feel that there is a segment of the hunting population that either doesn’t understand our Second Amendment rights, or are willing to throw certain types of firearms under the bus, or whatever, calling names is not the answer. Education is a much better answer that mocking them, and driving a wedge between the hunting and non hunting gun owners.

I found a copy of the book at the local Half Price Books, and figured I would check it out. That gives you an idea of what is contained in the book. I also had to laugh about the section on the courts, seeing as Heller reversed most of what Sugarmann claimed.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. will recommend that a sheriff’s dispatcher be fired for hanging up on a woman who had called 911 while she was being beaten by her boyfriend, according to a news release issued by the sheriff’s office Thursday.

Clarke said in the release that dispatchers are trained to deal with chaotic calls.

“The experienced dispatcher should have known that you don’t hang up on people because they are unable to articulate the kind of help they need,” Clarke said in the release. - jsonline.com

I don’t want to impugn the many good people working in the dispatch centers, but these kinds of things happen. And even when the police are dispatched, they are at best minutes away in a situation where seconds count. So, take responsibility for your own safety.

I finaly got the money together for the upper for the AR-15 lower I built. After hearing good things about them, I ordered from del-ton. They said that orders are backlogged 8-12 weeks.

Remind me to schedule any future purchases further from the election of anti-gun presidents…
