Now what could that be?
November 1, 2011Losing points
October 31, 2011With concealed carry becoming law tomorrow, Wisconsin is losing 4 of it’s 8 points awarded by the Brady Campaign. (Shall issue carry and parking lot). Now to get rid of those other 4 (Dealer record keeping and campus carry).
Check and Mate
March 10, 2011Last night the Wisconsin Senate Republicans passed a modified version of the budget repair bill, with anything they felt “imposes, continues or renews a tax, or creates a debt or charge, or makes, continues or renews an appropriation of public or trust money, or releases, discharges or commutes a claim or demand of the state” removed. Only bills fitting the previous description require the 3/5ths for a quorum, anything else only requires a simple majority. The modified bill still included the union provisions that most of the ruckus was about.
Today the Assembly passed the same version of the bill so it can now go to Governor Walker’s desk. Walker has confirmed that he will sign the bill. There had been some speculation that he may not sign it immediately, using it as a bargaining chip with the shameful 14 to get them back and pass the entire bill, or a less modified version of it.
Awesome
November 3, 2010Come January, with a Republican majority in the WI Senate and Assembly, and a Republican Governor who’s said he will sign it, it’s only a matter of time before Wisconsin has concealed carry.
Quote of the Day – Hammock Edition
May 9, 2009“We don’t want to turn the safety net into a hammock,” Mr. Ryan said. “We don’t want to turn the safety net into a system that ultimately drains people of their potential, that ultimately lulls people into lives of complacency and dependency on the federal government for their well-being.” – Rep. Paul Ryan
And I gotta love this: “..his office, adorned with a large Green Bay Packers helmet and a duck he bagged on a hunting trip.”
Cool
April 28, 2009Scott Walker offically threw his hat in the ring for the 2010 WI gubernatorial election. Scott has been the Milwaukee County Exec since 2002, winning reelection in 2004 and 2008, proving that when Republicans act like Conservatives, they win, even in heavily liberal Milwaukee County.
Microstamping Bill Introduced in WI
April 18, 2009AB-221 was introduced in the Wisconsin Assembly, which would require microstamping of all new semiautomatic handguns manufactured after Jan1, 2011. The bill was introduced by Leon Young, Therese Berceau, Robert Turner, Jon Richards, Tamara Grigsby, Annette Williams, Pedro Colon, Frederick Kessler, Christine Sinicki, and Sandy Pasch, cosponsored by Senators Spencer Coggs and Lena Taylor.
The bill is currently in the Committee on Criminal Justice.
If you need a reminder of why this is a bad idea, check out the NRA/ILAs writeup on the California’s law.
Another reason Doyle has got to go
October 24, 2008From jsonline.com:
“Most of us are in much more danger from a drunk driver than we are from a person that is going to break into our house,” he said. “I don’t think we should have a ban (on checkpoints). . . . I think it can be a useful tool, used appropriately and in a limited way.”
The Democratic governor said courts have set criteria for the constitutionality of checkpoints. Any new Wisconsin law would have to follow those guidelines, ensuring stops are not made in a discriminatory fashion, he said.
Putting the civil rights aside for one moment, HOW ABOUT SOME ACTUAL PRISON TIME FOR PEOPLE CONVICTED OF DRUNK DRIVING? That might get some results, as opposed to stopping everyone driving through the wrong place at midnight on Saturday. Especially since once the police catch them, nothing will happen.
Now then:
Having disregarded our Second Amendment rights, vetoing concealed carry that had overwhelming support, Doyle now goes after the Fourth! What’s next? Maybe a few soldiers quartered in our homes?
I don’t care how you apply this, it is a violation of our rights, and an inconvenience for people who aren’t drinking and driving. That a governor is so willing to discard them should bother anyone.
Want something even more disturbing? There is talk of a cabinet position for Doyle in an Obama administration. Maybe even AG. While that is obviously speculation, it is frightening.
Runner up for today’s quote of the day (from IM) -
Peter: there is talk of [Doyle] getting the AG position in an Obamarama administration
Greg: of course he would. obama is too busy violating the 1st and 2nd amendments to have time to mess with the 4th, so he’d need to hire someone with experience
For my Wisconsin readers:
October 23, 2008Reminder:
CCW is still in play in Wisconsin. While Doyle will probably veto it, we have been VERY close to overrides. If we keep, or pick up, legislature seats in Wisconsin, we may be able to get it through. Get out and vote, make sure your friends do the same, and if you have the chance, get out and campaign.
