Christmas is just around the corner, and a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 68% of American adults prefer stores to show signs saying “Merry Christmas” rather than “Happy Holidays.”

Only one-quarter of adults (25%) favor signs that say “Happy Holidays.” Those figures are virtually unchanged from our survey conducted this time last year.

While it may have started with good intentions, “Happy Holidays” has grown into a ridiculous attempt to avoid saying anything about Christmas, for fear that it might offend non-Christians. And in the process, has offended a lot of Christians. But that’s OK, we’re not a protected class.

I am certainly not offended hearing “Happy Hanukkah” from a person observing that holiday, nor by the observance of other holidays. Please give my holidays the same respect, especially if you are a store that is profiting off of it.

I understand that the worst among out society has the right to a good defense in court, but for a trial lawyer to threaten to further ruin the lives of victims of child sexual assault makes him about as bad as the people that originally traumatized the victims. He is not talking about trying to establish the truth here, or even trying to provide an effective defense, he is talking about threatening and bullying crime victims to suppress testimony. That is unconscionable.

The Dallas Morning News reports:

Cameron Sands of Fort Worth kicked in the door of the house and shot himself in the stomach as he pulled a gun out of his pants to shoot the homeowner, police said. The homeowner was not injured.

We keep hearing (bogus) stats about how much more likely a gun in your house is to injure you, instead of an intruder, maybe we need stats on the likelihood of your crime gun killing you…
