Another range suicide

April 2, 2009

Uncle reported a guy that rented a gun and committed suicide with it, now this:

CALEDONIA — A Park High School teacher committed suicide at Shooters Sports Center Tuesday afternoon by shooting himself with a rented gun, according to Caledonia police.

The 37-year-old Racine man apparently went to Shooters, 4900 6 Mile Road, rented a gun and bought 50 rounds of ammunition to shoot on the range. Just before 3 p.m., other shooters on the firing range noticed him lying on the floor and called 911.

That hits really close. Shooters is the range I normally go to for handguns.

Seven Years Later

September 11, 2008

I still remember that morning, seven years ago. I remember watching in horror as the first building burned, and a plane flew into the second one. I remember going to work, and a group of us huddling around a TV in the store watching events unfold. And I remember breaking down and crying thinking of the lives lost that September morning, of the terror the people on the airplanes must have felt. And my heart still aches for those who were lost, and those who lost loved ones.

I remember the pride in hearing about the group of passengers that overcame both their fear, and their captors, but died heros in a field in Pennsylvania. I remember the heroism of the firefighters and police at ground zero. I remember a priest administering last rights, until he too was killed. I remember how America came together. It is sad that it takes an event as tragic as 9/11 to create that sort of unity, but for weeks America was united.

We must never forget that morning. Because if we become complacent, we will be hit again. Maybe not the same way, maybe not as many people will die, or maybe more will, but the hatred that caused those 19 people to do what they did is still alive.

Today, take a moment to remember, and vow to never forget.

And while you remember the horror and the resolve to never let it happen again, remember the unity. For a little while, even if we didn’t agree on everything, we were neighbors and friends. Since then, we have lost that, and we need to find it again.

CCW arrest in WI

June 16, 2008

A Marshall man faces concealed weapon charges after allegedly taking a loaded gun to a Sun Prairie Wal-Mart to buy more ammunition.

According to a criminal complaint, police were called to the Wal-Mart at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11. Upon arriving, they reportedly saw 26-year-old Ricky Rollert wearing body armor and a duty belt with a loaded 9 mm handgun in it.

Police arrested Rollert on charges of carrying a concealed weapon. - The Capitol Times

Sounds like a classic case of bad judgement, although, one has to wonder about the body armor. He entered a not guilty plea, I will be watching the story.

Pizza Hut Fires Driver

April 24, 2008

Pizza hut has fired James Spiers, the driver who shot and wounded a thug who’s girlfriend called for a pizza delivery so he could rob the driver.

Feedback can be left through a bizarre form that seems to think you will only contact them about pizza here. As far as I can tell, the most likely store is 4100 Se 14th StDes MoinesIA 50320. If you know the correct store, leave a comment and I will correct it.

Hat tip Say Uncle
