Even worse than you thought

March 8, 2010

From the Telegraph:

Violent attacks are estimated to be 44 per cent higher than they were in 1998 after research on the way police record them allowed comparisons for the first time.

The study, by the independent House of Commons Library, shows violence against the person increased from 618,417 to 887,942 last year.

The devastating review comes despite repeated claims by the Government that violent crime has come down substantially since it took power.

It is the first time such a trend in police recorded crime can be made because a change was made in counting rules in 2002 which ministers have always insisted meant figures before that date were not, therefore, comparable.

For comparison, the US Violent crime rate fell about 25% from 1997 – 2008.

Once the government starts creating hate crimes, they aren’t too far away from creating thought crimes.  In fact, hate crimes are thought crimes, so strike that. – Sebastian

Quote of the Day – Should Have Done Edition

June 9, 2009

What the husband should have done was look that limp, left-wing pansy Matt Laurer in the eye and told him point-blank that he and his wife both have Georgia carry permits and will shoot the ex-husband on sight if seen approaching them. Since the abusive ex has a restraining order already against him, I’d say he’d be able to make a case that such an act was justified since most abusers violating orders of protection aren’t generally interested in idle chit-chat with the women they cowardly beat into a pulp. – Armed Canadian

Quote of the Day – Stupid Solutions Edition

June 5, 2009

When you get down to it, a sign asking a bad guy not to do something bad is stupid, regardless if you’re asking them to not bring in their guns or to not rob the place. But stupid people require stupid solutions I guess. – Robb

Be careful

May 20, 2009

Sebastian had some trouble at the airport after forgetting a loaded magazine in a computer bag.

I had one of the incidents that never happened a couple months back. As part of a large project at work, I needed to travel to a few different sites. We have a facility in MN, and, as usual, I drove there. The next week I was scheduled to fly down South to visit two more locations. Halfway though the MN trip, I realized that I had a Speed Strip, complete with 6 .38spl +P Silvertips in it, in an inside pocket of my jacket that I didn’t know about. Needless to say, I double checked everything before heading to the airport the next week.

So be careful when you fly, and don’t end up like this!

Quote of the Day – Restraining Orders Edition

May 19, 2009

Restraining orders are useless in much the same way that laws don’t mean much to someone who’s decided he’s going to kill you. Multiple jacketed hollowpoints on the other hand tend to lead to a cessation of agressive, violent behavior. – Mike W

I try to avoid using other blogger’s QotDs, but in this case my quote was from Mike’s comentary, so I think I’m safe.

Interesting

May 12, 2009

Catching up at Say Uncle’s, I ran across this:

FBI Data On officers killed in the line of duty. Down 17 from last year

Great news. Fewer officers killed in the line of duty is a Good Thing.

Then there was this:

Beretta: First quarter sales are up 66% compared to last year.

And this:

Sturm, Ruger‘s corporate report, in pdf. Firearm sales up 55%, production up 69%, but not keeping pace with demand, backorders are up to nearly half a million firearms

Huh. People must be growing immune to the mind control waves from guns that make you want to shoot people. Or maybe, More Guns = Less Crime, or at least fewer officer homicides. At worst, the two are not linked.

This is what Massad Ayoob would call

May 5, 2009

A “sudden and acute failure of the victim selection process.

From a distance the large ship on the horizon looked like the perfect target, ripe for a successful spot of piracy.

But as Somali pirates sped toward the vessel sailing near the Seychelles Islands on Sunday, they were horrified to see two boats and a helicopter set off from their target and launch their own counter-attack.

They had failed to spot in the dazzling sun, that the “merchant ship” they thought they were intercepting was actually a French naval ship bristling with cannons, radar technology and armed commandos. – FOXNews

Yeah, right. See Memphis, she said, had election fraud and not voter fraud. Because that’s different. Maybe if we required the dead people to submit a thumbprint, then they wouldn’t have voted. – SayUncle
