Quote of the Day – Big Loser Edition

May 15, 2009

Speaker Pelosi’s the big loser, because she either comes across as incompetent or dishonest. Those are the only two defenses. The fact is, she either didn’t do her job, or she did do her job and she’s now afraid to tell the truth. - former Speaker Newt Gingrich

The only problem I have is that he makes incompetent and dishonest sound like they are mutually exclusive.

Trap

May 14, 2009

2 rounds, 15 & 19. Not sure what happened with that first one. At the end of last year, I switched from one eye to both eyes, and my shooting hasn’t been as good as it was. I tried gooing back, though, and that feels even stranger now.I think using both eyes will help me long term, but still needs a little work.

Quote of the Day – Forward Edition

May 14, 2009

I have always found it somewhat troubling as a scientist and critical thinker, due to the implication that “progress” is always of the good kind. “Progress,” in my mind, has always simply been a transition from one state of being to another that was forced, influenced, or otherwise coerced by some mechanism, and that transition can lead to good or bad consequences, or at the very least consequences unintended by the architects of said mechanism. The vector is the unspoken (and most important) variable. – Mike Gallo

Quote of the Day – It’s the Thought Edition

May 13, 2009

You can be pretty sure no one has been killed or injured with a gun used for laser tag and permanent injuries with paintball guns are exceedingly rare. But that isn’t really relevant is it? It’s the thought that counts: – Joe Huffman

Standard problem with politicians: they would rather do something visible than do something useful.

Quote of the Day – Renaissance Festival Edition

May 12, 2009

That whole corner of the world is like a Renaissance Festival gone amok; one where the participants don’t take off their medieval garb and come back to the 21st Century at the end of the day, because it’s never Miller Time in a country where booze is illegal and most anything fun can result in having various bits chopped off in a court of law. – Tam

Unfortunately

May 12, 2009

I’ve felt kind of like this lately. And I know some others have, too.

Interesting

May 12, 2009

Catching up at Say Uncle’s, I ran across this:

FBI Data On officers killed in the line of duty. Down 17 from last year

Great news. Fewer officers killed in the line of duty is a Good Thing.

Then there was this:

Beretta: First quarter sales are up 66% compared to last year.

And this:

Sturm, Ruger‘s corporate report, in pdf. Firearm sales up 55%, production up 69%, but not keeping pace with demand, backorders are up to nearly half a million firearms

Huh. People must be growing immune to the mind control waves from guns that make you want to shoot people. Or maybe, More Guns = Less Crime, or at least fewer officer homicides. At worst, the two are not linked.

Quote of the Day – That’s the Point Edition

May 11, 2009

You also need to understand that on the long timeline of liberty, anonymous firearms ownership is a must. I don’t care if you can’t see past your prejudices and personal horror that the government may not know who has guns. That’s the whole point! As long as there are firearms out there, antique or modern, that cannot be accounted for the possibility of us being pushed too far and fighting back as the Founders intended will always remain. – The Armed Canadian

Quote of the Day – A Good Reason Edition

May 10, 2009

I miss “Wild Bill,” too, the Chief. He was a good guy, a great cop, and if you weren’t a jerk, he wasn’t, either. BTW, he also believed in gun rights and was one of the few Jersey cops who issued handgun permits, a rarity in New Jersey, without putting you through the “third-degree” during your application process. He would say, “Just write on the application that you believe in the right to bear arms.” In New Jersey, that is a rare attitude for a cop. – Jeff Soyer

I always wanted to just put the Second Amendment in the reason box on an NFA form.

Quote of the Day – Hammock Edition

May 9, 2009

“We don’t want to turn the safety net into a hammock,” Mr. Ryan said. “We don’t want to turn the safety net into a system that ultimately drains people of their potential, that ultimately lulls people into lives of complacency and dependency on the federal government for their well-being.” – Rep. Paul Ryan

And I gotta love this: “..his office, adorned with a large Green Bay Packers helmet and a duck he bagged on a hunting trip.”
