There’s something amusing and heartening about watching a young woman with “VEGAN FOR LIFE!” tattooed in fancy Spencerian script two inches high across the yoke of her shoulders, tearing in to the biggest, juiciest, RAREST hamburger I have ever seen. – Cranky Lit Prof
Quote of the Day – Greed Edition
March 6, 2009A little bit different format, Milton Friedman in his own words:
Refuse to be a victim files
March 5, 2009ELYRIA — The 70-year-old wife of a Lorain County Family Court judge meted out a little domestic justice of her own Tuesday afternoon when she fought off four robbers with her favorite saucepan.
Ellen Basinski refused to be intimidated by a man and three boys who forced their way into her house on Columbus Street and demanded money.
“One of them picked up my purse and just dumped it out,” she said Wednesday. “Now, my purse is like Fibber McGee’s closet, it’s got everything in there. I got very angry.”c
Before she even gave much thought about what she should do, she grabbed an Emeril Lagasse 5-quart saucepan
Another person who refused to be a victim. No matter what the weapon someone chooses, I applaud those who refuse to be a victim.
Rasmussen: 75% Believe in a Constitutional Right to Own Guns
March 5, 2009Seventy-five percent (75%) of Americans believe the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of an average citizen to own a gun, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
Just 14% say gun ownership is not a constitutional right. Eleven percent (11%) are not sure.
Not to surprising that the numbers are higher in Republicans that Democrats, or gun owners vs. non gun owners. They point out that “Despite the oft-cited concern about the danger of loaded weapons to children in the home,” households with children are more likely to support the right. I don’t find that too surprising, due to the natural inclination to protect children, often by owning a gun.
Quote of the Day – Strange Mentality Edition
March 4, 2009Quote of the Day – Muster Edition
March 3, 2009So, the menfolk all went out to the woods this weekend to build forts and play soldier - err, build fires and get drunk - err, muster the militia. (I will give them this much: Their activities this weekend really do sound remarkably similar to the militia musters of the 18th century – meaning a little bit of training and a lot of drinking and revelry – so they have that going for them.) – Laurel
Huh. Sounds interesting.
Quote of the Day – Impersonal Edition
March 2, 2009Well, if you want to have a close and meaningful relationship with your attacker, then you should probably forego the gun and carry a knife. Me, I want a self-defense event to be as impersonal as possible. Click, boom, cleanup in Aisle Five. Nothing personal, no hard feelings–just rejecting an unacceptably termed business proposition. – Marko
Privatization
March 2, 2009My response to the critics of privatizing various government functions. Today I had to renew my registration for my car. And get an emissions test. Normally includes dealing with the DMV. However, WI farms out the emissions testing, and allows you to renew your registration at the test center. I swear I have waited in the pre-wait line (the one to get a number that will get you to be able to see someone) at the DMV than I was at the test station, including the test and renewal.
Quote of the Day – Inactive Edition
March 1, 2009Folks, I can’t hold Jim Scott’s gun banning ways against him anymore. He’d be a fool to be anything but a gun banner. We have no business complaining about his votes when in a District with diverse views on everything else, nearly 90% of his constitutents who care are against our gun rights. Until the large gun rights crowd in McLean makes their voice heard, his votes fall on their inactive hands. – Countertop
He’s right. If we don’t make our voices be heard, we have no one but ourselves to blame. So make the calls, fill out the surveys, and write the letters. Don’t let your voice be heard, MAKE it be heard.
